Below you will find in formation on our up and coming Canine Therapeutic Support Program (CTSP).
While we work hard to secure funding, volunteers and resources, you can check out the CTSP Reading Buddies program information below!
The Canine Therapeutic Support Program (CTSP) Reading Buddies uses specially trained therapy dogs to provide one-on-one support for school age children. Each student is matched with a partner canine and their handler. While the students meet and greet the canine, reading materials are provided at the child’s specific ability level. Each child reads to their canine companion in a relaxing, stress-free environment that places focus and value on their emotional and mental well-being, while helping to strengthen their reading and literacy skills. The CTSP Reading Buddies program offers immediate reading and literacy intervention services, while helping to restructure the child’s experience from one that may be stressful, to one that is positive and supportive.
This program offers physical and emotional support for students who may struggle with reading and/or literacy. It also provides a calming environment that encourages students to utilize their own coping skills and calming methods when under stress.
Our pilot program is projected to begin during the 2020-2021 school year. SAF is currently still needing financial support to bring this program to students. Because we are a small organization, we rely on donations and funding from generous people like you.

As programming specifics and funding are still being secured, our long term goal is to have a team of Canine Therapeutic Support volunteers.
