What is #JUNEProject?
Sheron Ann Foundation created #JUNEProject as a way to directly support survivors of domestic violence in their transition from abuse. #JUNEProject provides suitcases and travel accessories to survivors of domestic violence who are currently fleeing abuse, or living in domestic violence emergency housing programs.
Why Suitcases?
Often times when survivors of abuse are able to leave, they have little to no time to collect their personal items. To ensure their safety, survivors often grab what they can in just a few seconds/minutes, and leave abruptly.
Because of this, many individuals and families arrive at emergency housing programs with their belongings in whatever was available at the time. Often this can be a shopping bag, old backpack, or even no carrier at all.
Due to lack of funding and resources, many programs are only able to provide survivors with plastic garbage bags to hold, protect and transport their items.
What Does The Name Stand For?
In 2017, our Co-Founder and Executive Director wanted to do something that directly supported survivors of interpersonal abuse. As a DV survivor herself, she remembered how difficult it was to leave, and how misunderstood she felt when trying to access basic needs during her transition from abuse.
#JUNEProject came about to mark the month that represented both her birthday and when her transition from domestic violence began.
There are two ways survivors can access a free suitcase:
Program advocates can contact Sheron Ann Foundation through the services request form at the bottom of this page to request a suitcase, or more information, on behalf of a client they are serving or the program they represent.
*If you are a survivor but are not currently working with an advocate, please visit the "Resource Advocacy Program" page and fill out the contact form there.
List #JUNEProject as a service you are in need of, along with any addition resource needs, and someone from our team will contact you.
A Few Things To Note:
-Suitcases are provided one per person while quantities are available. Families may request one suitcase per member of the family, or a few larger sized bags to share between family members.
It is up to the discretion of the family and what best meets their needs.
-Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, shipping and delivery time of suitcases/travel items may take longer than normal. If you are in immediate need of items, please let us know and we will make available accommodations to meet your needs as soon as possible.
FOR REFERRALS: Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page to place a referral for an individual or family.
FOR REQUESTS: If you are not currently working with an advocate or organization, you may still request services. Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page and someone from our team will contact you.
